May is prime time to move your hardy tomato seedlings outside. Follow these quick steps:

1. Check nighttime temps - wait until lows stay above 10 °C (50 °F).
2. Harden off - start with 2 h outdoors, adding 2 h each day over a week.
3. Pick the perfect spot - full sun, well-drained soil, and some wind shelter.
4. Plant deeply - bury stems up to the first true leaves to encourage extra roots.
5. Mulch & water - apply organic mulch and water deeply at transplant.
