Care tips

Sow annual poppies where they are to flower, because they usually dislike transplanting and establish best in situ. Give poppies full sun and well-drained soil, avoid overfeeding, and deadhead or leave seedpods according to whether you want a longer display or self-seeding.

Common pests

Aphids, downy mildew, powdery mildew, slugs on young plants.
